T-shirt Quilt Finish on Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Welcome to week 461 of Free Motion Mavericks. I delivered the quilt to my nephew last night at 10:30 so that he could pack it up to bring to Denmark. He lives down the street so it wasn't a long journey. He and his roommate are tall men, so they helped me take a few quick pictures of the quilt. Thanks guys!

Bear Facts and Multiplications from quiltaholic

It seems a long time since I last posted. In fact it is quite a long time. Tempus Fugit when you are enjoying yourself. Also I have been running a bricks and mortar shop which took up most of my time. Last time I published I think I had completed the Elizabeth Hartman Bjorn the Bear Quilt. The latter was made from leftovers from the Fancy Forest Quilt I made earlier. Handiwork ~ Build-A-Quilt #2 from Liz Makes Crafts

Handiwork is the 2nd colorway from the Build-A-Quilt program by Angela Walters, and unlike Urban Grid which felt a bit like a risk, I knew I loved this color palette the minute I saw it.

I mean, it's Alison Glass, how could I not love it? What did scare me a bit more than Urban Grid is that I chose a layout I've never tried before: a braid quilt.

This was definitely more challenging than the flying geese layout of Urban Grid, but I'm glad I chose it because it is definitely an interesting and beautiful design ...

Urban Grid ~ Build-A-Quilt #1 from Liz Makes Crafts

Late last year I decided to join the Build-A-Quilt program by Angela Walters. I had trouble deciding between 2 colorways, so I decided to just do both of them. The first one I've completed is Urban Grid.

What drew me to Urban Grid immediately is the really funky fabric. This is not a palette I would usually pick for myself, but something about it was intriguing to me, so I decided to give it a shot.

Sew Different from Sew Sunshine

Like many of you, I have been sewing masks. We have so many places asking for masks that it is hard not to stop what you are doing and sew them if you can. I knew that I had enough supplies already to make a few so it was just a matter of digging through everything.

Newish techniques, old favorite things from Elaine Adair Pieces

Garlic Knots - I'm practicing ruler work in the border - tedious, but kinda cool as well. I lost my way, here and there. Seams under the ruler sometimes helped, sometimes hindered. I need to improve on sharper corners, and I also wish I had left more extra batting and backing on the outside of the border, to grip. Two more sides to do, then just binding and it will be D O N E!

I added a strip of sandpaper to the back of my ruler. It might not be needed by others but helped me hold onto the fabric ...

Never Say Never from Liz Makes Crafts

I said I wouldn't do another block of the month next year because I'm still tired from the last one, Stargazer, which did turn out beautiful but was so exhausting.

So what did I do? I've thus far joined 3 block-of-the-months next year for a total of 4 quilts. I should have known I wouldn't be able to resist when they come calling!

Fortunate Impromptu Shop Hop from Bonnie's Girl

Since Wednesday I have managed to visit 5 different quilt shops without leaving the state, participating in a planned shop hop, or even traveling on a bus tour. Wednesday, I traveled from my little town to nearby Hannibal, Missouri--yes, Mark Twain's hometown--and spent a few minutes in both of the quilt stores in historic downtown. Both Bits and Pieces and The Hickory Stick are nestled in the midst of the Mark Twain Museum and surrounding shops and carry a fine array of the best fabrics and patterns.
